Dear Oasis Friends and Family,
During a time of grief, trauma, mourning, and action, the staff and Board of Directors at Oasis International the African Center stand in solidarity with those who are outraged and fighting hard to dismantle systemic racism and white supremacy in our country.
Black Lives Matter. It is incumbent upon us to act accordingly, and to identify those ways that we, as leaders of African Community organization, can stop perpetuating pervasive and systemic white supremacist practices and lead through our actions.
Oasis International the African Center of RI is committed to doing the hard work of dismantling even the most subtle forms of white supremacy in our community, in our practices, and in the work we do to help make our community a place where Black people can live and thrive.
We will continue to work hard to bring a diverse mix of perspectives to the community and our partners. We will create professional leadership opportunities for our young professional and youth programs. We will provide Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion training for the community we serve. Advocate for the need of our community. We will continue to prioritize Oasis voices in every community activity that we are part of and public programs.
We do not have all of the answers. We will continue to work with our leaders foster solutions. Our commitment is to continue to educate ourselves and our community; to do anti-racist work; and to create partnerships that foster a more equitable and as a nonprofit working in the public trust, we will lead in service of equity and justice for all.
